Lentil Bean Chilli Burgers

I had been given some green lentils and red kidney beans so I made some burgers and they were absolutely delicious: It was the first time that I had cooked green lentils and on the packet it was written that they had come from Canada: I did wonder - can't we grow lentils in Europe - why are they shipped all the way from Canada and why is Canada the largest producer

Apparently - the Hebrew bible states that Jacob buys the birthright from Esau with stewed lentils - lentils were also eaten in a time of Jewish mourning - and an Indian lady healer that trained with yours truly gave me lentils during my time of mourning: As Hashem said 'T'Zadikah

The Italians ate them for New Year and we have just started the Chinese New Year of Sheep-Goat-Ram in a wooden green year - in Shia narrations lentils are blessed by the prophets! I've always liked lentils and Indian Dal

The top ten producers of lentils are as follows:

Canada
India
Australia
Turkey
United States
Nepal
Ethiopia
China
Syria
Iran

Anyway - a cup of green lentils was all it required to make 7-8 large burgers - this is a great and economical dish for the family with children!

Rinse the green lentils a couple of times prior to cooking:

I boiled the green lentils for a good ten minutes prior to simmering with carrot and some potatoes sliced very small and thinly - cooked all the ingredients together with a couple of cloves of chopped garlic!

Cup of green lentils
2 large cloves of garlic
2 small carrots cut thinly and small
1 small potato sliced thinly ( although you could add 2 or more)
Cup of home made breadcrumbs
3 slices of bread
Paprika to taste
Hot chili pepper to taste
Black Pepper to taste with rock salt
Oregano and Basil dried herbs
Tin of red kidney beans
Half a sliced onion
Sprinkle of sunflower and pumpkin seeds

When the lentils etc is cooked - after draining the green lentils etc - put the green water to one side and you can put a couple of handfuls of cous cous with turmeric in it to make a sauce for the burgers: When the cous cous is done then add some mango chutney to give a sweeter taste:

Then mash your lentils - put them in a dish to add the other ingredients that are dry - don't use a food processor - its important that you use your hands for cooking as often as possible - to keep your hand muscles strong! Just use a fork that is all it requires - keep on forking your mixture to mash the food together!

I added some homemade breadcrumbs that I had in the cupboard - about a cupful

Plus 3 slices of bread cut up very small - the tin of red kidney beans drained - herbs and spices - keep mixing - you can a little of the lentil juice if you like - I did - I had put some aside: Also add a thinly sliced onion raw to the mixture and some seeds:

Keep on mashing all the ingredients and turning it over until it has the consistency of minced beef - then your burgers are ready to be cooked:

They shape easily and cook quickly - just a few minutes to brown each side - remember your burgers are already cooked - you are just warming them through and browning the outside - so a quick turn on each side prior to serving!

Hope that you like them - be inventive and creative with your cooking - and love to cook with healing foods!

I will definitely cook these again

So what's so great about lentils - full of protein and high in iron - so good for the blood and your gums!

I once had a mirror like that when we lived in a Victorian house - I converted the loft space prior to moving to another house - the renovations and refurbishment that she did do: The loft space made a large room with large window and it was ideally suited for an art studio as there was so much light - and lots of pine wood cupboard space built into the eaves!

My son would sit in his pram in the fresh air - waving to the people as they went by - it gave me some time to do what had to be done - knowing he was safe!

The house had a large garden - and it was very close to the shops - we had an old English sheepdog in those days - a beautiful dog that we got from a rescue home: It was open house and people would arrive all hours day and night - there was always food in the house and offer of something to drink!

I always loved to cook and found it to be very therapeutic

I also wore tail's that had once been worn by a small man - it had been bought at a second-hand shop - I wore the coat with a pure white ruffled muslin shirt - and sometimes with a tie - the days of wisdom's growth - when she was bringing up her son and running businesses at the same time: No surprise then that wisdom with insight was called to do the count in recent years!

This made me smile - recipes for Kim - red or green lentil bolognese
